I recently got the pleasure of reviewing Holly Witt-Allen’s “Beach Chic Jewelry” book. I always love anything related to the beach, as I’m from the concrete jungle of Chicago! So, this book had me beach dreaming’ and definitely inspired! Although this book is mostly for beginners, all stages of headers can find something that suits their style. She includes tutorials for sets, bracelets, necklaces and earrings, so there is definitely a range of projects. There is also a Beginner’s Guide at the back of the book to introduce beaders to the techniques, tools and vocabulary used in beading. Being a photographer myself, the prop styling is super cute and really sets the mood of the book. What’s great is that I can see these pieces worn casually on the beach, but you can also dress them up for fancier occasions. I love jewelry with versatility! A lot of these pieces can be made fairly quick, which is great if you need last minute gifts. I always love giving handmade jewelry to my friends and family, because there really is nothing else like it!

My Favorite Project:  Honu Happiness Bracelet. I really like the use of the turtle and shell buttons as closures, it’s so clever! Also, I’m into layering bracelets and these are great for layering with others I’ve made. Plus, the mix of gemstones with leather is a winning combination!

This book sounds like a perfect fit to my library! I am not in the concrete jungle of Chicago, actually live on the opposite end of Illinois. We call it God's country down here and being kind of "laid back", I have the distinct advantage of being able to sit back on the porch or deck and read the book and actually sit out there and work a project or two. No traffic, no sirens, not much concrete either...just the sound of the birds and the bright sunlight! Geez, actually that sounds really good!
