Here's how to use the various types of bails:

  1. Style A:

    A bail with an open seam can be carefully pulled with pliers to create a gap and allow a pendant to be attached.

     
  2. Style B:

    A bail with a special pin-like catch can be opened and used to capture a pendant with a top-drilled hole.

     
  3. Style C:

    A fused bail cannot be opened but has a loop that will allow a jump ring to be used to connect the pendant.
