Materials:

  • one button (can use shank or two-hole button)
  • 24 inches 1.5mm leather cord
  • 2 yards 1.2mm Chinese knotting cord
  • 8 inches heavy rolo chain
  • clipboard
  • clips
  • nipper tool
  • GS Hypo Cement

Instructions:

  1. Take your button and put your 1.5mm leather cord through the shank. Center the leather on the button and clip it onto the board. The button should be clipped at the top; use a binder clip to secure the other end to the bottom of the board.

  2. Take your 1.2mm Chinese knotting cord and put it under both of your leather cords. Center the cord and ensure both sides are even before knotting.

  3. Start your Shamballa knot: Take your right knotting cord over both leather cords and under the left knotting cord. Take your left knotting cord under all cords and up through the loop. Now repeat for the left side. Take your left knotting cord over your leather cords and under the right knotting cord. Then take your right knotting cord under all cords and up through the loop. Full Shamballa knot complete!

  4. Repeat step 3 to complete two full Shamballa knots.

  5. Unclip your button and slide your knots up to the button. Re-clip your button and place the chain in between the two leather cords.

  6. Take your right knotting cord through the first link of chain and under the left leather cord.

  7. Take your left knotting cord through the same link of chain and under the right leather cord.

  8. Take your right cord through the next chain link and under the right leather cord.

  9. Take your left cord through the same chain link and under the left leather cord. Repeat steps 6-9 to required length.

  10. To secure, you will make four Shamballa knots (or two complete knots).

  11. Take your right knotting cord over the leather cords and under the left knotting cord. Then take your left knotting cord under everything and up through the loop.

  12. Take your left knotting cord over the leather cords and under the right knotting cord. Then take your right knotting cord under everything and up through the loop. Repeat steps 11 and 12.
     
  13. Glue your last two Shamballa knots; let dry and nip the ends. (It is best to glue on the bottom side of your bracelet where possible. As the glue dries, the color of the knotting cord will darken.)

  14. Knot your leather with enough space for your button to fit through (roughly 3/4 inches). Put glue inside the leather knot and pull it secure with flat or bent nose pliers.

  15. Once you've finished gluing the leather, unclip your button and secure your Shamballa knots with a little bit of glue.

  16. Once your glue has dried you can nip the ends of the leather and enjoy!
